Astoria's Amaro Recipes


Old World Belief


Name Inspiration: Respect for the work of the people who came before you.

Cocktail Inspiration: A delicious classic cocktail called a Stone Fence: a spirit of your choice, apple cider, and bitters.

Where to drink: When you first get home from work in the evening.

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz. Astoria's Amaro Tea Concentrate (Steep 5 sachets in 8 oz. of water just off a boil for 10 minutes. Remove and let cool to room temperature.)
  • 2 oz. Apple Cider
  • 1 oz. Bourbon
  • 2 dashes Angostura Bitters

Directions:

  1. Fill a Bull in China mixing glass with ingredients and add ice.
  2. Stir until chilled, for about 10-15 seconds.
  3. Strain into rocks glass with fresh ice.
  4. Garnish with an orange peel.

Sapwood Sour


Name Inspiration: Sapwood is the living wood where sap flows inside a tree.

Cocktail Inspiration: A classic whiskey sour, this cocktail has deep, rich, fall flavors that can be enjoyed year round.

Where to drink: On your front porch or in your back yard as the sun sets and the temperature slowly drops.

Ingredients:

  • 3 oz. Astoria's Amaro Tea Concentrate (Steep 5 sachets in 8 oz. of water just off a boil for 10 minutes. Remove and let cool to room temperature.)
  • 1 oz. Rye Whiskey
  • 1/2 oz. Dark Maple Syrup
  • 1/2 oz. Lemon Juice
  • Soda Water

Directions:

  1. Fill a shaker tin with all ingredients except soda water and add ice.
  2. Shake vigorously for 10-15 seconds.
  3. Strain into a rocks glass with fresh ice.
  4. Top with soda water and add a lemon peel to garnish.

Astoria's Amaro "Digesteaf"


Served in small two and a half ounce servings to highlight the lightly caffeinated blend of complex floral, fruit and citrus notes with vanilla and cascara. Mixed with fresh lemon and tonic water.

Ingredients (makes 8 servings):

Directions (for two servings):

  1. Stir together Astoria's Amaro concentrate, bitters, and simple syrup.
  2. Fill two 2.5 ounce glasses halfway with tonic water.
  3. Fill cocktail shaker with ice.
  4. Pour 2 oz. of mixture over ice.
  5. Squeeze one lemon slice and toss into shaker and shake vigorously.
  6. Strain into glass with tonic water and enjoy.

Foreign Climb


Name Inspiration: The new paths we must not be afraid to take.

Cocktail Inspiration: A vermouth and soda, with a Middle Eastern twist.

Where to drink: Perfect for after a meal.

Ingredients:

  • 3 oz. Astoria's Amaro Tea Concentrate (Steep 5 sachets in 8 oz. of water just off a boil for 10 minutes. Remove and let cool to room temperature.)
  • 1 1/2 oz. Dolin Rouge Sweet Vermouth
  • 1/2 oz. Rothman & Winter Apricot Liqueur
  • Fever Tree Bitter Lemon Soda

Directions:

  1. Fill a Bull in China mixing glass with all ingredients except lemon soda and add ice.
  2. Stir until chilled, for about 10-15 seconds.
  3. Strain into collins glass with fresh ice.
  4. Top with Fever Tree Bitter Lemon Soda and garnish with an orange wedge.

Tiny Blessing


Name Inspiration: Being thankful for the everyday small things in life.

Cocktail Inspiration: The classic Negroni Sbagliato cocktail. A negroni, with sparkling wine in place of gin.

Where to drink: Mid-day cocktail hour.

Ingredients:

  • 3 oz. Astoria's Amaro Tea Concentrate (Steep 5 sachets in 8 oz. of water just off a boil for 10 minutes. Remove and let cool to room temperature.)
  • 1 1/2 oz. Dolin Blanc
  • 1/2 oz. Lemon Juice
  • 1/4 oz. 2:1 Simple Syrup
  • Sparkling Wine

Directions:

  1. In an ice filled wine glass, add all ingredients except sparkling wine.
  2. Add ice and stir for 10 seconds.
  3. Top with sparkling wine and garnish with your favorite herb (we recommend thyme).

Iced Tea Latte


An indulgent yet refreshing iced tea latte featuring our Maker’s Series No.004 blend, Astoria's Amaro.

Ingredients:

  • 3 oz. Astoria's Amaro Tea Concentrate (Steep 5 sachets in 8 oz. of water just off a boil for 10 minutes. Remove and let cool to room temperature.)
  • 2 oz. Simple Syrup
  • 6 oz. Whole Milk (or Dairy Substitute)

Directions:

  1. Fill a shaker tin with all the ingredients and add ice.
  2. Shake vigorously for 10-15 seconds.
  3. Pour into a pint glass.

For a hot beverage, mix all ingredients and steam or heat milk (or dairy substitute). For another variation, fill a pint glass with ice, then pour in simple syrup, milk, and then the tea concentrate to see a layered beverage that you can stir together with a straw.


Black Mountain


Name Inspiration: The literal translation of Montenegro, which was the name of Tony's favorite amaro that we tasted.

Cocktail Inspiration: Arnold Palmer meets a Campari and soda.

Where to drink: After a meal for a boost of caffeine, and for its digestion-aiding properties.

Ingredients:

  • 3 oz. Astoria's Amaro Tea Concentrate (Steep 5 sachets in 8 oz. of water just off a boil for 10 minutes. Remove and let cool to room temperature.)
  • 1 1/2 oz. Amaro Montenegro
  • Lemon Soda

Directions:

  1. Fill a Bull in China mixing glass with Amaro Montenegro and tea and add ice.
  2. Stir until chilled, for about 10-15 seconds.
  3. Strain into collins glass with fresh ice.
  4. Top with lemon soda of your choice and garnish with an orange slice.

Tremble Dancer


Name Inspiration: A tremble dance is a dance performed by a forager honey bee to recruit more receiver honey bees when there is too much nectar to unload quickly.

Cocktail Inspiration: Part gin & tonic, part Bee's Knees cocktail. Refreshingly bitter and herbal.

Where to drink: Wherever, whenever.

Ingredients:

  • 3 oz. Astoria's Amaro Tea Concentrate (Steep 5 sachets in 8 oz. of water just off a boil for 10 minutes. Remove and let cool to room temperature.)
  • 1 oz. Gin
  • 1/2 oz. Lime Juice
  • 1/2 oz. 2:1 Honey Syrup
  • 2 dashes Regan's Orange Bitters
  • Tonic Water

Directions:

  1. Fill a mixing glass with ingredients except tonic and add ice.
  2. Stir until chilled, for about 10-15 seconds.
  3. Strain into collins glass with fresh ice.
  4. Top with your favorite tonic water (we like Fever Tree) and garnish with a lime wheel.
