About This Tea

The traditional tea of the Japanese tea ceremony. Our Matcha comes from a tea cooperative in Gifu Prefecture and is made using shade grown green tea that is destemmed and deveined (called Tencha) before being milled into a fine powder. This gives it a brilliant green color with a rich, slightly sweet vegetal aroma with notes of spirulina, cashew and malt. Learn our Matcha Latte Recipe, a favorite of ours here at Smith.

Japanese matcha.

Preparation

For best flavor, bring freshly drawn water to 175 degrees. Add between 1/2 and 1 teaspoon matcha per 8 ounces. Whisk vigorously for at least 30 seconds. Drink while contemplating this floating world. Learn how to make a matcha latte.
