Anatomy of a Blend: Meadow

A fan favorite here at Smith, Meadow is a visually stunning blend that has been compared to a watercolor painting. Fun fact: when we began producing it in 2009, our team hand-sifted each batch of chamomile flowers with a traditional bamboo wooden box. While production has ramped up quite a bit since then, we still sift our chamomile in-house to ensure it's the best quality possible, keeping a watchful eye on everything from sourcing to delivery. That level of care steeps into our relationship with our consumers as well. We want you to feel like you are in our tasting lab right side alongside us, which is why if you stop by and visit our SE Portland tasting room you can watch our production team blend and package right before your eyes.

Smith Teamaker Meadow tea blend

In the spirit of transparency, a core value here at Smith, we have deconstructed the makings of our beloved Meadow herbal infusion, sharing how each individual ingredient contributes to the final infusion.

Chamomile flowers: Sourced from Egypt, the Nile provides ample water and fertile soil for the world’s finest tasting chamomile blossoms. With a soothing characteristic and a subtle taste and aroma that is apple-like and toasty, Meadow is based around this beautiful top note.

Rooibos: Often Marketed as a tea, Rooibos is actually an herb that is a member of the broom-like legume family of plants that grow in the fynbos, a small area of land located in western cape of South Africa. It makes the blend a little rounder and centered with notes of vanilla.

Hyssop: We source our Hyssop from our home state of Oregon. It is a fairly complex, rich, and herbaceous aromatic with a mint-like taste.

Linden leaf and flowers: Sourced from Eastern Europe, linden has a really soft lovely floral note that fills out the center of the blend.

Lemon Myrtle: Steve chose this certain kind of myrtle from Australia due to its clean lemon flavor. It gives it a citrusy cup that makes your taste buds pay attention.

Pink Rose petals: Not only are pink rose petals beautiful, they have a delicate floral note that adds a softness to the blend.

Safflower: Creates a desert sunset in your cup, producing a lovely yellowish orange color.

Cornflower: This flowering plant adds a swath of blue as the deep as the sea to the finished blend.
